On our trip to Haiti, our host is a man named John (MaxHenry Lorient) who runs a Christan school. Currently, the school is a pair of relatively small buildings that miraculously squeeze two-hundred children into them. The school runs mostly on donations, but only two of the eleven teachers and administrators have long-term, committed sponsorships. With hands already quite full, John is also building a new school building that could hold around six-hundred students. The new building is being slowly funded through donations and money brought in from American missionaries staying with him. The school itself is a huge blessing to the community, allowing children who would otherwise be wandering the streets of Merger to receive an education for which even wealthy families would pay.

The Holy Spirit is alive and well in the Merger area, and we have witnessed that through our ministry. There is a church close to the school, and the pastor there is a truly devoted Christian. The pastor, John, and our team held Vacation Bible School for two days and praised God with almost one-hundred children from Merger. We have prayed over some of their families right in their homes, helped construct gates and walls for protection, and seen the beautiful smiles of the Haitian people. Even with all their hardships, these people smile bigger than anyone you know and exemplify hospitality. On our last ministry day, we will finish painting the school and play soccer with the children one last time, praising Jesus all the while.
