Everything changes the moment God changes your entire perspective and outlook on life. When He shakes you to your core, shatters everything you thought you knew, who you thought you were, and reveals to you what He has created you for is a feeling like no other. For me, that moment happened 10 years ago at the age of 14 when He called me out of my comfort zone to travel to a country I had never known before. During that mission trip He made it extremely clear to me that I was made for missions. I was made to serve and love on those around me in other countries. Prior to this trip to Haiti, it had been 3 years since I had been on a mission trip, which is a long time for anyone who knows me and knows my passion for missions! I felt God placing this trip to Haiti on my heart and jumped at the opportunity to go. Little did I know how much more God would confirm things for me. For the past few years I’ve had a yearning and passion in my heart to start an orphanage somewhere around the world. Visiting the orphanage in Haiti opened my eyes to a whole new world that I long to be a part of. To see children so content to sit in your lap and be held for hours is a feeling like no other. I’ll never forget the moment when kids were running all around me and the girl I was holding fell asleep in my arms. I felt so content in that moment and so happy that I was able to be there for this little girl. It reminded me how Jesus must feel when we come to him and how he longs to hold us and comfort us. The most important thing in this world is love. God calls us to love others as Christ loves us. People may wonder why I traveled all the way to Haiti to play soccer with some kids or hold an orphan while they sleep but ultimately it all comes down to love. It was such a special moment to be able to share the love of Jesus with these kids by spending time playing with them and comforting them while they slept. God has completely shattered everything I thought to be true about my life in America and has shown me what is truly important in life throughout all my mission trips and once again here in Haiti. It’s a heart-wrenching process but one that is totally worth it in the end when you know 100% why God has placed you on this earth. Haiti will forever have a special place in my heart and I will never forget the things God has revealed to me and taught me on this trip. I pray that God would shatter your life as he did mine, it’s an amazing process!!
